5800 firmware update v30.0.011 is out for Malaysia

New firmware v30.0.011 is out for Malaysia 5800 users..You can upgrade using FOTA or NSU.

No official change logs reported yet. I already upgrade this firmware myself..and too bad..no kinetic scrolling as most of 5800 users are hoping for. What I notice is fast respond on the touch screen. Either than that, havent explore yet since I just upgrade couple minutes ago..

No gateway reply solution for Nokia 5800

It sometimes happens when you try to connect to the internet using you Nokia 5800, you see error message NO GATEWAY REPLY on you screen. The common perception among people is that this error message caused by a WiFi problem or bugs on your 5800. But you should know that error message is not caused by those reasons. Let me show you that the main reason of that problem can be the disable DHCP on your router so the phone can not dynamically reach an IP. Then you can set your router easily. You just need to give manually your 5800 the DNS server and IP address. You will not need the DHCP for doing that. So the detail steps are:

1. Press the menu button.

2. Settings>connectivity>destinations.

3. Select your access point then add the new access point.

4. Select yes while it asks for AUTOMATICALLY CHECK FOR AVAILABLE ACCESS POINTS

5. Select the suitable WLAN network (choose one with known wep key).

6. Select no if it asks to CONFIGURE NOW.

7. Enter you WEP key.

8. Go to the internet (in destinations) then select you WLAN network.

9. Highlight the WLAN (data bearer) option then go to the advance settings.

10.Select ipv4 then enter these following values:

(a)Phone ip: 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 (range)

(b)Subnet mask

(c)Default gateway : this one is you router’s address (commonly 192.168.1.1)

(d)Dns address 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220(they are opendns servers but you can choose dns address that provided by you ISP)

11.Now finally you can access easily you WLAN network ( via menu>settings>connectivity>wlan)

Kinetic Scrolling Widgets for Nokia 5800 XM

The firmware update for Nokia 5800 XM will come with several improved and new features such as kinetic scrolling in several menus, improved performance for camera as well as response time and also improved homescreen.

The kinetic scrolling is still in its partial stage this time that applicable in contact list, homescreen and web browser as well. According to some people this update is welcome but it seems to make any inconsistency in Nokia 5800’s UI.

For your description, you have to scroll down your finger in areas where the scrolling kinetic is active but you need to scroll up your finger in other areas. Other than kinetic scrolling feature, dragging, you need 2 taps for activating item then for the menu with icon based you need a tap.

However, the other improvements like enhanced camera performance and response time will make you happy.

DrJukka Key Lock Clock v0.55

Key Lock Clock is a free Clock application that is shown while the device's key lock is on. The idea was inspired by the feature found from E71 & E66.

Very simple to use, just click the application icon, set the "Clock screen" on, exit the application and lock the key lock normally. Additionally this application can be used as a Table clock when the charger is connected, to enable this feature just set the "Lights on while charging" on. also if you think that the screen lights are too bright, you can adjust it with the "Lights intensity" option.
This version was designed 5th edition touch devices such as 5800 & N97 in mind, but should work just as well with all Symbian S60 3rd edition non-touch devices.

- Added Font selection, so all have nice font in the clock screen,
- Fixed the issue with 12 hour clock,
- Checked the settings re-freshing, should be fool proof now,
- Added Light timeout setting, so the light wont go out when you lift you finger from the button,
- Added a idle time resetting (nice technical term) when light are on, so in old devices the screensaver should stay out,
- Added a automatic key locker, so you can set the keys to be locked after some idle time,
- Added some Call handling code, just to make sure the clock screen is only there when there is no calls active.

Garmin : Malaysia/Singapore Maps update v1.65-lite version

New maps available v1.65 lite version on www.malfreemap.com or you can always download here or here.

Download, extract and copy to e:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img

Garmin Map file for malaysia& Singapore is name as gmapsupp.img..just copy paste in e:\Garmin\ folder..Garmin software will detect the map from that path..

I advise to used mfm-lite edition for 5800 XM or any other mobile phone, so you will not encounter any lagging and refresh rate problem..I had used it and it work fine..v1.50 and above recalculate faster if you are going the wrong way..

Dont forget to disable U-Turn function to get better route calculation.

It's been a while since I post in this blog. So just to start the second half of the year, I would like to share one very interesting apps for your S60v5 phone..

XPress Notes ver 0.2



A useful application developed by Igor and really helps me to get around. You can save the notes in Xpress Notes or even in jpg where with one button, it will transfer the save notes in your gallery.

You can download this apps here..But firstly you need to install Python in your phone first. Make sure you install both Python and Xpress Notes at the same memory (either phone or card memory).
