5800 XM firmware update v31.0.008 using NSU

Latest firmware released for Nokia 5800 XM v31.0.008. Only available throught Nokia Software Updater for most of the generic product codes from EMEA and APAC region and is expected to be available for the rest of the world as well as for NAM and branded devices shortly.

Unfortunately it is not available as FOTA update which is by the way the best and the fastest possible way of delivering software updates. So quite a disappointment. The file size will be around 144.4 MB and you need fast internet before downloading. Make sure you have stable internet connection before downloading as you will feel the pain of time wasting when your internet connection drop and you need to start over again.

There is no detailed change log at the moment and I can't see any noticeable changes or improvements but as you would imagine, the firmware update is always recommended as it usually brings improvements in performance and optimizes the functionality of the phone across many applications.

Unfortunately there is no eagerly awaited kinectic scrolling but a cording to the NSU team, the latest software update comes with a new version of Ovi Maps, which offers improved maps and enhanced pedestrian and drive navigation. Additionally, the software release includes several performance improvements and that's it!!!!

Oh yes, one more thing, Nokia 5800 comes with native UDP support but it is anyway highly suggestible to back up your phone memory before performing a firmware update as precaution measure in case something goes wrong.

Full touch Nokia 5230 announced, 3G and GPS onboard

Looks like Nokia releasing more to touch screen phone and like Toyota, everyone can own a Vios..for Nokia, everyone can own a touch screen phone..i guess this phone will be much cheaper than 5800 XM as it didnt provide any wifi connection.

Much like the Nokia 5800, the Nokia 5230 sports a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels, FM radio, 3.5 mm audio jack and microSD card slot. The camera has been downgraded to 2 megapixel resolution but manages the decent VGA@30fps video recording.

Nokia 5230 runs the latest Symbian S60 5th edition and is powered by the same battery as 5800 - a 1320 mAh one, which is good 320 mAh larger that that of the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic. According to the manufacturer the 5230 will be capable of 33 hours of non-stop music playback.

I hope with Nokia coming up with this model, 5800 XM users will be able to enjoy same widget as 5230...as I like the home screen better

Garmin : Malaysia/Singapore Maps update v1.69-lite version

Download, extract and copy to e:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img

Garmin Map file for malaysia& Singapore is name as gmapsupp.img..just copy paste in e:\Garmin\ folder..Garmin software will detect the map from that path..

I advise to used mfm-lite edition for 5800 XM or any other mobile phone, so you will not encounter any lagging and refresh rate problem..I had used it and it work fine..v1.50 and above recalculate faster if you are going the wrong way..

Dont forget to disable U-Turn function to get better route calculation.
